You bring the conversation and we will provide the space... DadSpace
Todays walk and talk started with a long sit down… We had planned only a brief meet and greet before our walk, but once the words started flowing, we could not stop!
Some would judge a session like this by the number of attendees. We often find that smaller groups produce the most rewarding and meaningful conversations. We are proud to say that DadSpace is there for dads if and when they need it. We see new faces each month and always happy to see those that have not visited for a while. Plenty to talk about this way too.
Initially we discussed the pressures placed on our children around exams such as 11+, GCSE’s and A Levels. We shared our own experiences of school, and we all felt let down by the education systems apparent focus on grades and league tables, over our children's creativity, emotional well-being and happiness. A common theme on the radio too at the moment with over critical Ofsted inspections taking their toll on the education system.
We also touched on the varied emotional connections parents can have with their children from birth, and how we project the fear of repeating our own mistakes onto them. Protecting them, but preventing them from learning things their own way. Its so very hard to let go and allow them to find themselves.
Lastly, the group seems to be developing an infectious habit of inspiring each other to face new challenges and venture outside of our comfort zones! Which is fantastic to hear. Lots of progress and reflection happens outside of a DadSpace meeting, and being able to voice your experiences is what we are all about. Our walk finally got underway and after a rather deep morning of reflection, we were greeted with a beautiful view across Deer Park. None of us wanted to leave that scene and for a moment we all felt the weight of the world had lifted from us. The wind on our faces, smell of nature and positive vibes in the air. Priceless.
